For over a year, SelectShip has steadily evolved into a core component of DCL’s transportation management offering. On the surface, it may seem simply like optimized carrier routing, but its intelligent design and data-driven shipment routing make it a comprehensive tool that helps customers manage transit times, shipping costs, delivery accuracy, claims, and overall reliability, all while providing a more predictable delivery experience.

Throughout the year, we have continued to expand our network of reliable carriers, improve functionality to accommodate more shipping scenarios, and build a modern shipping service that gives our brands a competitive advantage.

The results below provide a look at SelectShip’s performance over the past 12 months.

Our SelectShip Promise, Metrics at a Glance

SelectShip is built around a single objective: improving the end-customer shipping experience while giving brands greater predictability and control over parcel transportation.

What this means:

  • Reliable delivery performance. DCL maintains a 95% on-time delivery (OTD) target, and SelectShip is currently averaging 97%.

  • More predictable transportation costs. Less than 8% of parcels shipped via SelectShip Standard incur delivery area surcharges (DAS), compared with 25% shipped under single-carrier contracts, like UPS or FedEx.

  • Consistent transit times. SelectShip shipments average 1.7 days faster than shipments using a single-carrier model.

  • Network flexibility. SelectShip doesn’t depend on a single carrier. The platform matches each package to the carrier best positioned to deliver on time, automatically rerouting around capacity constraints, weather delays, and service disruptions. During peak season 2025, when a USPS backlog slowed shipments in a concentrated region, SelectShip redirected volume to keep deliveries on track.

SelectShip is a modern transportation solution designed to adapt to the changing needs of the market. Its performance continues to demonstrate the value of that approach.

Key Performance Highlights

  • Up to 25% reduction in customer parcel shipping costs

  • 34% faster average bi-coastal delivery transit times

  • 50% fewer delivery claims through enhanced shipment visibility and proof of delivery

  • 97%+ on-time delivery SLA maintained across optimized carrier network

  • 60% of eligible customers have adopted SelectShip since launch

  • 68% of DCL's parcel volume is now optimized through SelectShip's AI-driven decision engine

On-Time-Delivery and Transit Time Improvements

Across the 12-month reporting period, SelectShip achieved an overall on-time delivery rate of 97%, compared with DCL’s 95% target.

Performance across individual service levels included the following average transit times:

  • Standard: 3.37 business days

  • Expedited: 2.58 business days

During peak season in 2025, SelectShip Standard averaged 3.18 business days, versus 3.96 business days for a premium product like USPS Priority Mail. SelectShip Standard was much more consistent, week over week, as well.

This provides a view of how SelectShip has maintained delivery performance throughout the year, including periods of changing volume and carrier conditions.

Cost Performance

SelectShip delivers average cost savings across its customer base, demonstrating the value of an optimized transportation network. But the bigger picture is predictability. SelectShip is designed to give customers a more consistent parcel transportation cost structure, helping them better manage shipping expenses and reduce exposure to common surcharges.

DCL evaluates cost performance on an ongoing basis, accounting for shipment weight, fuel, delivery-area surcharges, changes in carrier pricing, and the impact of shipments originating from non-optimal fulfillment locations.

Beyond the direct cost savings, customers are also seeing operational benefits. The automation and continued improvement of SelectShip reduce the need to manually evaluate carrier options and spreadsheets, freeing up time for teams to focus on other priorities and business initiatives.

Case Study: Delivery Area Surcharge (DAS) Comparison

One way to demonstrate SelectShip’s cost structure is through a comparison of delivery-area surcharge (DAS) exposure against traditional parcel services.

Metric

Customer A:
UPS/FedEx Ground

Customer B:
SelectShip Standard

DAS as a percentage of total shipping cost

7.00%

1.50%

Percentage of packages receiving a DAS

25%

8%

.

The customer comparison:

  • Customer A uses a traditional single-carrier model, relying exclusively on UPS and FedEx. These carriers provide a comprehensive delivery network, and a known percentage of shipments are subject to delivery-area surcharges.

  • Customer B uses SelectShip Standard, which leverages UPS and FedEx where their services offer the right fit, while also utilizing other carriers when they provide a more cost-effective option for a particular shipment.

As shown above, approximately 25% of Customer A’s UPS/FedEx Ground shipments incurred a DAS surcharge, compared with 8% of Customer B’s SelectShip Standard shipments. DAS charges also represented 7% of Customer A’s total shipping cost, compared with 1.50% for Customer B.

This example illustrates how SelectShip’s diversified carrier network and pricing structure can reduce customers’ exposure to delivery-area surcharges. Actual results will vary based on shipment destinations, package profiles, and applicable carrier charges.

Network Optimization

SelectShip uses a diversified carrier network to support different service levels, delivery destinations, and customer shipping requirements.

DCL continues to monitor carrier performance through quarterly carrier scorecards, evaluating delivery performance, claims, pickup reliability, and carrier responsiveness against DCL targets and market benchmarks.

The value of this diversification becomes especially apparent during periods of high volume. Peak season provides an important opportunity to evaluate the flexibility and capacity of the SelectShip network under increased shipping demand. When individual carriers experience capacity constraints or service disruptions, DCL can leverage its broader network to help maintain delivery performance.

Peak-season performance (data from Oct – Dec 2025):

  • Peak shipment volume: 64.6% above average

  • Peak-period OTD: 97.75%

  • Average transit time during peak: 3.4 business days for SelectShip Standard

Data-based Navigation of Complex Dangerous Goods Decisions

SelectShip handles dangerous goods using the same selection logic as every other parcel, with one added constraint: a DG flag narrows the eligible options to carrier services approved for that product’s DG classification.

From there, SelectShip chooses the service with the highest delivery confidence for the delivery window.

Because SelectShip is organized by service level rather than by Air versus Ground, DG shippers have access to all four levels: Standard, Expedited, 2-Day and Next Day.

SelectShip’s flat, zone-free rates apply to DG packages too, ensuring regulatory compliance with simplified pricing.

Year-End Takeaway and Outlook

One of the most valuable attributes of SelectShip is that it continues to improve over time. As the network expands and the technology evolves, DCL can build on what is working, address new shipping scenarios, and create additional opportunities for cost and service improvements.

Comparing the results from our initial six-month performance report with the current 12-month results demonstrates that progress.

6-Month Performance (see full report here)

  • 1.1 days faster average transit times.

  • 15% average transportation cost savings through budget-friendly base rates and maximized surcharge avoidance.

12-Month Performance

  • Up to 25% reduction in customer parcel shipping costs

  • 34% faster average bi-coastal delivery transit times

  • 50% fewer delivery claims through enhanced shipment visibility and proof of delivery

Looking ahead, DCL will continue to monitor carrier performance, evaluate network opportunities, and use shipment-level data to identify opportunities for improved delivery consistency and cost management.

As the transportation industry continues to evolve, SelectShip will remain an important part of DCL’s approach to providing flexible, data-driven parcel transportation solutions.
