SelectShip: Understanding the SLA

DCL measures performance at a network level and continues to utilize our AI-driven platform to keep an eye on order exceptions.

We measure success by customer and service level. Our service goal is to achieve a 95% on-time delivery rate, ensuring shipments reach their destination within the committed transit times for each service level (Standard, Expedited, 2 Day, and Next Day). This measurement excludes cases involving address corrections, deliveries blocked by limited-access buildings, and shipments to remote locations, including APOs and U.S. Territories.

The Customer Success team will collaborate with Transportation to provide SLA reporting on a customer-driven schedule.

Non-Optimal Node Fee

SelectShip provides zone-agnostic flat rate pricing by weight, designed to simplify parcel shipping across the U.S. This pricing assumes that orders ship from the most optimal DCL fulfillment node based on the destination.

When shipments originate from a node that is not the lowest zone option for that destination, a Non-Optimal Node Fee may apply.

When the Fee Applies

The Non-Optimal Node Fee applies when an order ships from a DCL node where the origin-to-destination zone is higher than the lowest available zone within the customer’s DCL node footprint.

This typically occurs when:

  • Inventory is placed in a sub-optimal fulfillment location

  • A customer chooses to ship from a specific node

  • Operational constraints require fulfillment from a non-optimal warehouse

Because SelectShip pricing assumes fulfillment from the most efficient node, shipping from a higher zone breaks the weighted pricing model and requires an adjustment.

Fee Structure

The Non-Optimal Node Fee schedule varies based on:

  • Shipment weight characteristics

  • Primary carrier mix

  • Customer shipping profile

Each customer’s fee schedule is determined through an analysis of their shipping patterns and node footprint.

Customer Applicability

  • The Non-Optimal Node Fee may apply to both new and existing SelectShip customers.

  • Any customer using multiple fulfillment nodes will have a custom fee schedule established in advance.

  • The fee schedule is designed to ensure SelectShip pricing remains balanced across the network while still providing customers with flexibility in inventory placement and fulfillment strategy.

FAQs

  1. Can you select carriers you want to use and omit others? No, the flat rate pricing that is offered assumes all carriers are in the mix.

  2. Does SelectShip support multi-carton orders? Yes, it will select the best fit carrier and service per box.

  3. What about weather or capacity at sorting centers? Any dynamic changes in the carrier network will be known by the software real-time. Therefore, no action needed from the customer or the 3PL, it will adapt as needed.

  4. What is available in eFactory? You will be able to see the service level passed to DCL and the carrier and service selected per order.

  5. How does SelectShip handle multi-node customers? If an order is routed to a non-optimal node, there is a separate penalty fee due to the additional transit required.

  6. Are returns covered with SelectShip? Not at this time. It is likely to be included in the future.

  7. How do accessorial fees differ with SelectShip? The base rates include residential fees, and fuel varies by carrier. Accessorial fees, such as DAS, still apply, but tend to be billed <10%, due to the carrier selection model knowing the accessorial fees of the package prior to selecting the carrier. Therefore, the engine avoids all additional accessorial fees in most (not all) cases.

  8. Can I use SelectShip for multiple channels? Yes, but make sure to understand the requirements and SLAs per channel prior to onboarding.
