DCL verifies shipping addresses for domestic (US) orders when they are received, before they enter the fulfillment process. This helps identify address issues early so they can be reviewed and corrected before shipping.
Address verification applies to US shipping addresses, including Puerto Rico, Guam, the US Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands, provided the order's country is set to United States.
International orders are not subject to address verification.
How Address Verification Works
When DCL receives a domestic order, the shipping address is checked using a third-party address verification service.
If the address passes verification: The order continues through the normal fulfillment process.
If the address does not pass verification: The order is automatically placed on hold and requires review before fulfillment can proceed.
When an order is placed on hold, the following message appears as the first line of the order's special instructions:
Auto-Hold: Invalid Address
Any special instructions originally provided
with the order will remain below this message.
DCL does not automatically update or correct shipping addresses. The customer is responsible for reviewing and updating the address.
Where to Find Orders on Hold
To view orders that have been placed on hold due to address verification, review in eFactory here:
Orders > On Hold
For instructions on updating an order and managing its hold status, refer to How to change, hold or cancel an order in eFactory.
What to Do If an Order Is Held
If an order is placed on hold due to an address verification issue:
Review the shipping address. Confirm the correct shipping address with the recipient or your internal team.
Update the order in eFactory. Make any necessary corrections to the shipping address.
Release the order from hold. The order must be manually released before it can continue through fulfillment.
Important: Updating the shipping address does not automatically release the order from hold. Be sure to release it in eFactory after making the necessary corrections.
Email Notifications
When an order is placed on hold due to an address verification issue, an email notification is automatically sent to your designated team contact.
To change the notification recipient or add additional recipients, email [email protected] with the email address(es) that should receive these notifications.
Why an Address May Need Attention
Address verification helps identify potential shipping address issues when an order is received. Reviewing and correcting these issues before fulfillment helps reduce the risk of shipping delays and prevents address-related issues from progressing into the Problem Order process.
