Each carrier provides their own insurance minimum and below is the most common carriers for small parcel. Please note rates can change through out the year so please work with your Account Manager to confirm the rates below are still current.

UPS Declared Value/Insurance 2024

  • 1st $100 is covered for free, any additional insurance would be on top of the $100 UPS provides.

  • Unless otherwise noted, UPS rates are per package for domestic services and per shipment for international services.

  • When the shipment is lost/damaged, UPS will then compensate for the true value (the cost of goods, not their sale price).

  • Investigation to ensure that, for instance, the packaging was sturdy enough to ship the product(s) thru a Small Package environment may be required.

USPS Insurance/Declared Value 2024

  • 1st $100 covered for free, for Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express

  • Only pay insurance on top of $100, see the below chart for rates.

  • When the shipment is lost/damaged, USPS will require proof of the cost of goods validating the insured rate.

FedEx Insurance/ Declared Value 2024

DHLeC

  • Automatic shipment value protection: Only for Expedited Max service & up to $100.

LTL Insurance

  • Insurance falls between $5 - $25 per pound.

  • Contact your Account Manager for more detail.

How do I add insurance to my orders?

Insurance can be added a myriad of ways depending on the channel in use.

  • DCL web services - you will map the additional insurance value to the insurance field in the API.

  • eCommerce Integrator - If using an eCommerce Integrator please work with your Account Manager for set up.
