Serialized products offer tracking and personalization to your customer's experience. DCL works with many products with serial numbers and we understand the importance of this aspect of your inventory management.

Here is how the DCL system effectively restricts the shipment of products with identical serial numbers.

How does DCL prevent shipping duplicate serial numbers?

  1. Serial Number Logging

    • Every time an order is shipped, our system logs the serial numbers of the products in a dedicated database.

    • The database is a repository of all serial numbers associated with shipped orders.

  2. Verification Process

    • During subsequent shipments, when a shipping clerk needs to scan a serial number, the DCL system initiates a verification process.

    • The system checks whether the scanned serial number matches any entry in the database of previously shipped serial numbers.

  3. Preventing Duplicate Shipments

    • If the scanned serial number matches an entry in the database, the DCL system flags it as a duplicate.

    • The shipping clerk is immediately alerted, preventing the shipment of products with identical serial numbers.

  4. Resolution by Shipping Clerk

    • Upon receiving an alert, the shipping clerk takes the necessary actions to resolve the issue.

    • The clerk is required to kit a new unit with a different serial number before proceeding with the shipment.

What happens to serial numbers of returned goods?

If the shipped unit is returned via an RMA or an Undeliverable, we can recycle the serial number and update the database so the unit can ship again.
